| Santa Clara City Hall sent a link to their website where they've put up a video and a pdf brochure of the show. Warning... the video is long and slow. I did not get to attend the opening, but it's nice to see all the other work. My piece is very near the end of the video (about 34 minutes in).
The brochure is nice, too. The email said we would all receive a copy of the video and brochure, which is very nice of them, I think...

| My new grandson, John Oliver Hayburn - or Jolly Bean, as we call him - was born November 7th, 2007 at 9:46pm. His mom Sarah (my oldest daughter) is fine after an emergency cesarean. John Oliver weighed 7lbs.5.9ozs. and was 20.5 inches.
He's SO cute, don't you think?

| I forgot to post here that my sculpture (Mitakuye Oyasin) got into a juried show - All Fired Up (http://www.ci.santa-clara.ca.us/events/all-fired-up.html), which opened Oct. 27th, 2007 at Santa Clara City Hall and will run until February of 2008... This article discusses the show, though it doesn't directly mention my piece: http://www.santaclaraweekly.com/627.html
I didn't get to go to the opening as Santa Clara, CA is over 100 miles from where I live in Sebastopol, but I was pleased to be selected out of the 200+ who applied. I think 78 pieces were selected.

| Here's another small clay piece I did recently... this one was an exercise in throwing enclosed "globes" on the wheel: first you throw a small cylinder, then shape it to the roundness of a globe as much as possible... then "collar" in at the top to bring the sides all the way in until there is no more opening. It's a lot harder than it sounds! After trimming the bottom of this one, I opened it back up at the top using a fettling knife, created a lid out of the removed circle and then added the small bluebird on top. Title: Ambition Medium: Recycled clay Surface: Engobo stains and crawl glaze Firing: Cone 5 Dimensions: 3" globe (diameter) with 3/4" bird on lid top.

| It's raining today... a nice, soft rain that the chickens and flowers and seedlings love. I tried to finish my garden gate yesterday, but time got away from me. I thought I'd put up some photos I took of the place where I live (Sexton View Lane in Sebastopol) on a sunny day. These are of the backyard and the chicken coop and the tiny creek that runs behind my studio. Enjoy! | | |
